What is Scrip?
Scrip is a method of fundraising in which money is raised on regular everyday purchases a family makes. Scrip is a real “gift certificate” from a participating merchant. Use Scrip rather than cash at no additional cost to your family. Families are not asked to spend extra money to buy items they may not need or want. No door to door fundraising is required.
How do I purchase Scrip?
Scrip is sold Monday from 1:00-5:00 and Tuesday through Thursday at the St. Anthony Church office from 9:00-12:00 and 1:00-5:00. On Friday, it is sold 9:00-12:00 and 1:00-4:30. Scrip is sold during the school year at the school office from 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Scrip is sold after the weekend masses at the back of church. You can order weekly by using the order form in your Thursday folder.
How does St. Anthony School and my family benefit from using Scrip?
St. Anthony School benefits by receiving 2% to 33% profit from the merchant on every dollar you purchase. The school purchases the Scrip “gift certificate” at a discount from the merchants and you purchase the Scrip from the school at the Scrip certificates full face value and the school retains the profit. Out of the profit retained by the school from your purchase, 1% is credited back to your family as tuition credit. You will receive this credit as a check at the end of the school year during the summer months. In addition, any parishioner or the public in general, may buy Scrip and have the tuition credit applied to your family’s account. Scrip costs you no additional money and your family and the school receive a percentage back from your purchases. The Scrip committee will track your tuition credit.
An example of Scrip use.
If St. Anthony parish has 88 families who purchase $300 of grocery scrip each month, that would be an approximate profit of $792 a month. In a year, Scrip could earn over $9504 just from grocery purchases alone! Again, Scrip is making regular everyday purchases at no additional cost to you.
How is the school using profits earned from Scrip?
After giving the tuition credit to the families, profits are used by the Home and School Association. The profits are used for special projects like the playground plans, paying technology needs, supplementing curriculum needs, and for other needs. The Home and School Association also contributes an annual amount to the general Church budget. This amount changes yearly but was $14,500 for the 2014-2015 school year.
